The Facilities
| Overview | |
The Computer Applications Lab (the CAL) is the home of Scientific Computing at Evergreen. The mission of the CAL is to support students who are enrolled in the Physical and Natural Sciences. Originally established in 1985, the CAL underwent a major remodel during the summer of 2000. The CAL is now comprised of two distinct teaching labs, East and West, with 26 workstations in each lab. With an upgraded facility, new equipment, and a growing staff, the CAL continues to change to meet the needs of the Evergreen scientific community. In addition to the CAL, Scientific Computing maintains over 80 other computers, including portable data acquisition equipment, mobile and laptop computers, specialty instrumentation computers and high-end imaging machines. The majority of this equipment can be found in one of two lab spaces: the East and West CAL. While the vast majority of our computers are Windows-based PCs, the CAL does support a small cluster of Macintosh and Unix/Linux-based computers. Although the CAL maintains a seperate domain, all machines are connected to the Evergreen campus network (Windows NT/2000-based) for file sharing and E-mail/Internet access. |
