Windows XP or Vista

If your connecting via Windows XP or Vista, you can see your files on Masu as if they exist on your own computer. You will need a high speed internet connection to make this work well such as a T1 cable modem, or DSL. It will work with a slower (modem) connection but you may find it more annoying than useful.

If you are using Vista, the pictures will be different but the text and steps are the same. Also, if you are using Vista and manage to successfully make your way through the steps below with no success, download and install this fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=907306 ...then try again. Good luck!

  1. Start by double clicking on My Computer from your desktop and from the Tools pulldown menu, select Map Network Drive.

    Map Network Drive Dialog Box

  2. Notice that on the bottom of this window there is a hyperlink to “Signup for online storage or connect to a network server.” Click on this hyperlink. This will open a wizard for establishing a link to a web site. Click next to continue.

  3. On the next screen of the wizard, select “Choose another network location” and click Next. This should present to you a dialog box that is asking for the address of the network place.

  4. So now we need to know the actual address of the folder on Masu so we can effectively connect to this location. There is a logical schema to this and it follows this convention. The first part will always be https://calfiles.evergreen.edu/ followed by the specific directory you want to connect to.

    Student fileshares – If you want to connect to your personal student folder on masu: You need to type in the address of your student folder on Masu. An easy way to get this right is to click on the students link on the left, select the link from this page that takes you to a directory listing, login using your evergreen login, find the link that corresponds to your folder, right click on the link and select “save link as”, then paste this link directly into the dialog box above. The other method is to simply type the address into the dialog box based on the following convention;

    Example: Your name is John Smith, born on January 1, so your address would be https://calfiles.evergreen.edu/programs/students07/s/smijoh01/

    Program fileshares – If you want to connect to your academic program share folder on masu: You need to type in the following address. Note: If you wish to connect directly to your program share folder then you need to know the exact name of the folder as it appears in the CAL. Example: If you are in Introduction to Statistics the folder is actually called Intro_Statistics, https://calfiles.evergreen.edu/programs/Intro_Statistics/ so the address would be https://calfiles.evergreen.edu/programs/Intro_Statiistics. An easy way to get this right the first time is to click on the “programs” link to your left, find your program link from the list, right click on the link and select copy link location, and paste this link location into the dialog box.

  5. Once you enter the correct address and push next, you should be prompted to enter a user name and password. Use your normal evergreen email address and password. Click ok.

  6. The wizard will ask you what you want to name the network. You can name it what ever you would like or keep the default.

  7. Then click finish to close out of the wizard. Windows should prompt you to enter username (evergreen email address) and password again and automatically open the folder. You will be prompted to enter your username and password (evergreen email address) every time you open the folder. The link to the folder will be under “My Network Places”. Congratulations, you should now be connected to your fileshare on MASU!

If all else fails, your files are accessible through the internet by following the instructions here for Programs or here for personal files. Enter your login with ’@evergreen.edu’ and your password normally. However, you will not be able to save back to the original file, SO PLEASE SAVE IT TO YOUR HOME COMPUTER!
